ALMONRY MEADOW 2023

Almonry Meadow, Northbourne

2023 marks the start of 'The Meadow Project', to start with the Parish Council has arranged for the fence around the play area to be repaired and cleaned and the surrounding trees to be assessed by a local qualified tree surgeon. A few branches had to be removed and ivy stripped from the tree trunks to keep them healthy.

It has also been agreed to renovate the pavilion, a local contractor has been engaged, and this work is due to start at the end of April 2023, hopefully the weather will be kind as we need drier ground to prevent too much damage to the grass when the building team arrives.

Sharon Irvine runs an RSPB project for young people - Wildlife Explorers' the group meets in the Parish Hall, they will soon put up nest boxes around the meadow to bring more birds to the area.

From mid April unmown strips of 5m will be created on 2 sides of the meadow, the grass will be allowed to grow for the encouragement of all wildlife. If you have a few wildflower seeds do drop them as you walk in these areas (only wild native species of course!)

One final plea is to dog owners, there are a few who still cannot pick up after their dogs, the bin was full last week so many do!
